I started my journey into search engine optimisation in 2004 when seeking methods to build traffic and get more customers to my partners e-commerce website.
I studied all that I could on the subject, undertaking an online Search Engine Optimisation course, studying Aaron Wall’s SEO Book, as well as frequenting SEO forums and Blogs. Much has changed in search engine algorithms and the internet in general since, but what I learned back then is still the foundation for good search engine rankings today: site architecture, unique content and quality links.
Once I applied all I had learned to my partner’s site the increase in traffic and sales was amazing. I decided I was pretty good at SEO and to look for a job in the field. Soon after I successfully gained employment at WCR Internet Marketing (AKA White Chalk Road) where I worked for close to 5 years. In 2012 an opportunity presented itself to join the team at SUMO Group and I jumped on it.
I continue to learn everyday, there is so much more to this field than simply ‘search engine optimisation’. Advertising, Usability, Analytics, Conversion Optimisation, Social Media, Copy Writing and Persuasion are all important aspects of marketing online.
